Bensalem Real Estate History:
Bensalem was established in 1692 by Joseph Growden who came here from England and received a grant from William Penn for five thousand plus acres. The area was initially recorded to be named "Salem" and in 1701 the prefix "Ben" was added.
The Dutch, Swedish and English were the earliest residents to settle in Bensalem establishing the area as farming community. Following, the 1950's and 1960's showed the integration of businesses and industries bringing the heaviest influx of residents to the area.
Growden Mansion is one of the more noted historical sites in the community. When under the Galloway Family ownership, Benjamin Franklin visited the mansion and it is said this is the location where he experimented with his kite and discovered electricity.
